Located in the Dutch town of Erica, the ‘Industrieel Smalspoor Museum’ (Industrial Narrow Gauge Railway Museum) tells the story of the narrow-gauge railways built in the early part of the 20th century in the Dutch province of Drenthe; These railways were vital to the Dutch Industrial Revolution and the museum is an account thereof. In the early 1900s, Dutch citizens from the West (predominantly Amsterdam) moved to Drenthe with the prospect of gaining wealth from the abundant peat resources found in the north-eastern provinces. The museum offers a detailed record of this unique part of history. Travelling in an authentic narrow-gauge train, tour guests will visit the ‘Fijnfabriek factory’ (one of the original buildings of the peat processing plant), the museum itself and the adjoining museum park. Visitors will experience an unforgettable day out in a beautiful, unique and surprising setting. An experience not to be missed!
