This challenging route on the border between south-western Drenthe and south-eastern Friesland runs through Drents-Friese Wold National Park. With its more than 6,000 hectares of woodland, heathland and sand dunes, Drents-Friese Wold is one of the Netherlands’ largest nature reserves. Featuring many single tracks, this route was especially created for mountain bikers. Despite the area’s relative flatness, the route features surprising height differences. The route was modified in 2014 by adding long technical sections with difficult climbs and descents. The route is quite challenging. When combined with the route in Appelscha (black signposting has been used to signify this connecting route), it is a highly challenging route for advanced cyclists. There is a lot of tourism in Drents-Friese Wold National Park. The route occasionally intersects footpaths and bridle paths. This doesn’t have to cause problems, but it is important to be aware of this fact. The plotted routes can be managed by any mountain biker, although, as a beginner, you will probably have to dismount once or twice on the steeper climbs. In short, this route is also a nice challenge for more experienced MTBers.
