This beautiful cycling route starts at the coffee and tea house Reiling Hoeve in Gasselternijveen, a place with a fascinating history. The Reiling family has lived here for 250 years, and the farm is also connected to the origins of the Baptist movement in the Netherlands.

From Reiling Hoeve, you cycle through the historic shipping village of Gasselternijveen, a village with a rich past. Along the way, you pass De Juffer windmill, beautifully situated near the Hunze river. Soon you leave the village behind and the landscape gradually changes into the green surroundings of the Hondsrug.

Through the charming Hondsrug village of Gasselte, the route continues into the forest towards Gasselterveld. Here you can experience the peace and open space for which Drenthe is so well known. One of the highlights along the way is 't Nije Hemelriek. Its crystal-blue water, surrounded by forest and sand, creates a surprisingly beautiful natural setting.

The route then continues across the Hondsrug, where you literally cycle through history. Along the way, you will discover several impressive megalithic tombs: D19, D20, D23, D24 and D25. These thousands-of-years-old stone monuments are silent witnesses to the first inhabitants of this remarkable landscape.

The route then takes you through the historic Drenthe village of Bronneger and onwards through the peaceful De Branden nature reserve. Here there is plenty of space to enjoy the landscape, nature and tranquillity.

Along the way, you will also come across the Baptist memorial column, another special reminder of the area's history. It is a wonderful place to pause and reflect on the connection between this region and the origins of the Baptist movement in the Netherlands.

After a varied tour filled with village history, beautiful nature, thousands-of-years-old megalithic tombs and stunning Hondsrug landscapes, you cycle back to Reiling Hoeve, the coffee and tea house.

  • Dolmen D23, D24 and D25

There are two places where you can find three dolmens together, Emmen and Bronneger. These dolmens form a triangle, although this is no longer clearly visible because of the vegetation around the dolmens.
