Drenthe Periphery Route 1 starts and ends at Wielercentrum Noord in Assen. The route has a length of 66 km and passes through Smilde, Hoogersmilde, Brunsting, Hooghalen, Westerbork, Amen, Anreep and Loon—and back to Assen again.

TT Circuit and Camp Westerbork Memorial Centre
This route largely runs through the region of the Drentse Hooglanden, with its meandering forest streams, majestic views of colourful heathland and characteristic brinkdorpen. You cycle past iconic past in Drenthe, such as the TT Circuit and Camp Westerbork Memorial Centre, where the tragic days of the Second World War are brought to life. Dismount to enjoy a drink out on a lively square or to visit one of the attractive shops in one of the villages you pass. Assen is also an excellent city for shopping.
