Connected by a Mill – De Weyert's Story of Food and Agriculture

Location: Makkinga

De Weyert windmill stands at the edge of the arable fields near Makkinga, where rye and later wheat have been cultivated for centuries. Farmers brought their grain to the mill, which provided flour but also served as an important meeting place. The former cooperative building next to the mill recalls a tradition of collective purchasing and sales. Restored in the 1980s, De Weyert is still operating thanks to volunteers and mills locally grown grain for the baker in Oosterwolde, keeping both heritage and the short supply chain alive.
