Agricultural farms once emerged along the Compagnonsvaart after peat from the Fochteloërveen had been transported away. When many farmers stopped farming at the start of this century, new small-scale initiatives emerged that combined agriculture, recreation and care. Onze Winkel is a prominent example. In an organic vegetable garden, produce is grown with the help of volunteers and sold directly in the local farm shop. The farm is also home to a petting zoo, a playground and safari tents for guests. The farm shop sells food with a face: products from local farmers and producers, each with their own story about origin, craftsmanship and conscious choices.
