Albertdina

Calmly and with a modest sense of pride, mill Albertdina looks out over the es (high-lying farmland to be found in much of the Netherlands). The mill has been a beacon of where the village begins—or ends—since it was erected in 1906. The small brink (a central open space to be found in many of Drenthe’s sandy settlements) in the village has a Japanese pagoda tree. In the mill, there is an exhibition about bee-keeping.

Albertdina is worth visiting during the day on account of striking red colour of its sails and its beautiful location by the edge of the village. Make sure, however, to also visit the mill in the evening when it’s lit up. Most mills in Drenthe are lit up during the evening, but Albertdina is among the most attractive of them.
