Wall of Emmen - Emmerschans

The former landfill site is a popular spot to relax after climbing the stairs. It offers a beautiful view of the Hondsrug and, on a clear day, you can see as far as the German border.

Next to the Wall is the Emmerschans. The Emmerschans is a former fortification in Drenthe, near Emmen. It was built in the 17th century as a defensive structure during the Eighty Years' War. Later, the fort lost its military function and the area was used for housing and agriculture. Today, the name Emmerschans still recalls this piece of military history in the region.
