Grain mill Sterrenberg—a unique mill in the heart of the village of Nijeveen. It’s unique in view of the system it uses. Millers from all over the country come to observe the self-adjusting kruiing and zwichting systems of the Sterrenberg mill, which respectively keep it optimally positioned in relation to the direction of the wind and pressure on its sails at an ideal level. The mill was brought to the Netherlands from Germany in 1977. Have a look around this mill, and make sure to check out its expansive shop. The mill is open every Tuesday and Saturday. And, as is the case for most of Drenthe’s mill, you’re welcome to have a look around when its sails are turning.

Right at the tip of Overijssel, the village of Nijeveen is just inside the province of Drenthe. The mill has a prominent position in the village. Whenever there’s a special occasion, the mill is cheerfully decorated. In the year of Nijeveen’s 500th anniversary in 1977, mill Sterrenberg was reopened by His Royal Highness Prince Claus.
