Museum Havezate Mensinge – Step back into history
In the heart of Roden lies Havezate Mensinge, the most authentically furnished manor house in the Netherlands. Here, time seems to have stood still. With its original furniture, artworks, and personal objects, the house tells centuries-old stories of noble families and their remarkable lives.
Centuries of history
The history of Mensinge dates back to 1381. For centuries, noble families such as the Van Ewsums and the Kymmells lived here, leaving behind an impressive interior: from a monumental 17th-century cupboard to an entire 18th-century Chinese porcelain dinner set. Antique clocks tick in the corridors while family portraits seem to watch you as you pass by.

Art and stories
Among the highlights are the paintings and drawings of Coenraad Kymmell, a former resident who captured the surrounding forests in his work. During a guided tour you’ll hear fascinating anecdotes and even mysterious tales – such as secret rooms and curious family traditions.
Explore the estate
After your visit, enjoy a beautiful walk through the Mensingebos and Sterrebos woods. Originally planted for timber production, they are now wonderful places to explore nature. A one-and-a-half-hour route takes you past the very spots that Coenraad Kymmell once painted.
Combine your visit
Havezate Mensinge is easy to combine with other attractions in Roden, such as the Toy Museum Kinderwereld, the Scheepstra Cabinet, or the historic Catharina Church. In the wider area you’ll also find the famous Prison Museum in Veenhuizen and the monumental Oil and Corn Mill Woldzigt in Roderwolde.
For young and old
Children and young people up to 18 enjoy free admission. With treasure hunts and special activities, they can discover what life in a noble house was really like.
Groups & weddings
Groups are warmly welcome for (pre-booked) guided tours, and Mensinge also offers a fairytale setting for weddings and photoshoots.
