We've left the city and are now walking in the peace and quiet of the Oude Diep basin. Thoughts flow naturally when people are in a tranquil environment. Vincent was a thinker and consciously sought out nature for his pondering. His letters are sometimes philosophical in nature. Although his scruffy appearance sometimes made him appear rather simple, he was well read and spoke several languages. Vincent was an authentic thinker and made different life choices than others. He had already made a number of career changes by the age of 30. He worked, among others, as an art dealer, teacher and pastoral worker. He then chose to become a painter.
