Villa Carex took its name from the Latin worth for heathland and was built in 1912, which means that this mansion was not erected until after Van Gogh’s time. The takeover of Griendtsveen ushered in a new era for the Amsterdamsche Veld, which also came with a new 'centre'. A new villa was built for the local director of the Peat Dust Company.
