The building was constructed in 1936 on behalf of Roelof Zegering Hadders and his sister Margreet. Zegering Hadders became a member of the Emmen municipal council in the late 1930s and was immediately appointed alderman with responsibility for poor relief and education. He was known as a prominent figure who was very involved in Emmen society. Villa Lindenhof was privately occupied until around 1980, including six years by Zegering Hadders himself. After that, it served a variety of public functions.
