41 Schooldijk

At 41 Schooldijk, there is another workers' cottage from the 1885 period. Both in Hoogeveen and here in Nieuw-Amsterdam/Veenoord, Vincent immediately started looking for workers’ cottages.

Apart from these cottages with their stone façades, Vincent also drew a large number of sod huts,

When Van Gogh visited the area in 1883, it had only been settled relatively recently, with the first houses in Veenoord and Nieuw Amsterdam being built in 1852.

A little further along the route, on the Middenweg, you will find another Van Gogh Vista panel.
